Free Solo: Dare To Follow Your Purpose

By Bram van Houtum

Mad man or the embodiment of living your Purpose?

Last weekend I watched ‘Free Solo’ in the cinema: the Oscar-nominated and visually mind-boggling portrait about the rock climber Alex Honnold. Alex specializes in stunning “free solo” climbs.

In this intimate documentary, Alex prepares to achieve his lifelong dream: climbing the face of the gigantic 3,000ft El Capitan in Yosemite National Park.

A freakily dangerous climb. You know it’s going to be death or an amazing achievement.

Alex might seem like a totally crazy guy. But in the end, he is just someone who can’t help doing the thing he loves the most.

He lives for climbing. In a way, he IS climbing. That’s his Purpose. His heroism is that he dares to follow his Purpose, whatever it takes.

You can think many things about his dangerous endeavor but to me, Alex is a true example of living from the inside out.

After watching the documentary you wonder why in the world you should not do the thing you truly love the most.

Especially if it's not life-threatening :).
